Wolves Women 5 (Perks 3, Large, Taylor ) Sheffield United 0

Wolves Women romped to a convincing 5-0 win over Sheffield United, with a hat trick for Anna Perks and debut first team goals for Rebecca Large (pictured) and Kerrie Taylor.

Wolves put United under pressure right from the start, with striker Anne Johnson coming close on a couple of occasions. The pressure paid off on 34 minutes with an in-swinging corner from Claire Hakeman, which Johnson met with a cheeky back-heel, to put Perks through on goal and make it 1-0 to Wolves.

As Wolves' missed chances tallied up, half time arrived, with them still only one ahead and wondering whether they would rue their missed opportunities.

Their answer came as early as the 47th minute, when Large opened her first team account by coolly chipping the approaching keeper to make it 2-0.

On 70 minutes, Wolves were awarded a free kick from 20 yards out. Substitute Taylor delivered the ball into the area, to be met by an Perks header, which the keeper could not keep out, putting Wolves 3-0 up.

Just three minutes later, Johnson, who had been a threat to the Sheffield defence all game, was brought down in the box and awarded a penalty. Perks stepped up to convert, and notch up her hat-trick.

On 79 minutes newcomer Taylor opened her account for Wanderers with an excellent strike from a Heather Clarkson pass to make it 5-0 to the home side and seal a convincing win.

Wolves are in action again this Thursday evening 24th April when they travel to Derby County. Then next Sunday 27th April sees them entertain Leicester City Ladies at home. The game will be played at Goodrich Sports Stadium, Stafford Road, Fordhouses, Wolverhampton with a 2.30pm kick-off.
