Wolves Women 2 (Ledgister 29, 70) Loughborough Ladies 1 (Steele 55)

Two goals for Nicole Ledgister took all three points for Wolves in a game played in conditions which included bright sunshine, rain, gale-force winds and even a hailstorm.

The home side started strongly and went close after just four minutes when some nice passing moves from Ledgister to Anne Johnson and then to Kerrie Manley culminated in a shot from Manley which went just over the bar.

Wolves continued to press, with Natalie Walker and Anne Johnson both testing the keeper. Then on 29 minutes some fine one-touch football from Wolves' Sarah Lambeth, Johnson and Ledgister resulted in Ledgister's shot across the keeper nestling firmly in the corner of the net to put Wolves one up.

Wolves' defence didn't have a lot to do, but what they did, they did well, with some fine link-up play with the midfield, and Dani Reade showing well at left back in her debut game for the first team. Wolves finished the half strongly in the middle of a hailstorm.

Half Time: Wolves 1-0 Loughborough

Loughborough came out fighting in the second half and forced a diving save from Wolves' keeper Becky Thomas after just four minutes. Sensing they had rattled the home side, they continued to pressurise, which paid off in the 55th minute. Loughborough's Jenny Anslow broke away with a fine through ball to Laura Steele, who finished well to equalise.

The goal gave Wolves the incentive they needed to fight back, and they peppered the Loughborough goal with shots from Ledgister, Natalie Walker and Anna Perks. Their persistence paid off on 70 minutes when a superb cross from Georgina Watton was crashed into the net by Ledgister to make it 2-1 to Wolves.

The final 20 minutes was quite a battle, with both sides having chances, and Wolves' keeperThomas making two good saves, but the home side held firm to take all three points and fourth spot in the table.

Next Sunday sees Wolves at home again when they entertain Sheffield United in a fixture change. The game will be played at Goodrich Sports Stadium, Stafford Road, Fordhouses, Wolverhampton, with a 2.30pm kick-off.
