Huge Win For Ladies
Wolverhampton Wanderers Women's FC 20 - Nicole Allison (2), Nicole Ledgister (5), Heather Clarkson (4), Anna Perks (3), Rebecca Large (2), Anne Johnson (1), Maria Beaney (2), Claire Hermon (1)
Withymoor Ladies FC 0
Wolves were hot favourite to win this Birmingham County Cup third round tie but didn't expect to do it in such convincing style. This was the biggest game in Withymoor's short history, being formed in 2006, and playing in the Birmingham County FA League Division 1 - three divisions below Wolves.
Withymoor acquitted themselves well, but the step-up was too much for them and Wolves had notched their first goal - from Nicole Allison - within 47 seconds.
Eight players got on the score-sheet, with captain Nicole Ledgister (pictured) leading the way with five goals. Heather Clarkson scored four, while Anna Perks netted a hat trick. Nicole Allison, Rebecca Large and Maria Beaney each scored two, and Anne Johnson moved from defence into attack for the latter stages of the game and added to the tally. Even centre half Claire Hermon managed a rare goal!
Wolves Women Manager Dave Ball said: "It's easy in these sort of games to lose your shape, but I was pleased with the way the girls kept their discipline and never took their foot off the gas. Credit to Withymoor, they never let their heads drop and played right to the final whistle, but Wolves' experience proved too much."
Wolves now take a break over Christmas, returning on Sunday 6th January for a home league fixture against Hereford Pagasus. The game will be played at Goodrich Sports Stadium, Stafford Road, Fordhouses, Wolverhampton with a 2.30pm kick-off.
