WBA Women1 (Moore 42)Wolves Women 2 (Ledgister 37, Clarkson 43)

On a day when Wolves men saved a penalty and held West Bromwich Albion to a goalless draw, Wolves Women went one better by saving a penalty and going on to win the game 2-1.

All three goals came in a seven minute period just before half time in a game which was played with passion and skill from both sides.

Wolves started well, having much of the early possession, and coming close on a couple of occasions - including having a goal ruled offside.

Albion were trying to get into the game but Wolves' back four stood firm and it was 23 minutes before goalkeeper Natalie Hall had to make a save.

Wolves continued to press and on 37 minutes a through-ball found striker Nicole Ledgister. The goalkeeper came out to smother the cross, taking Ledgister to the ground, but she couldn't hold on to the ball and Ledgister got up, rounded the keeper, and buried the ball into the net to put Wolves in front.

Albion levelled the score just five minutes later when a ball which was delivered into the area, found its way to the feet of Hayley Moore who beat the oncoming keeper.

This seemed to spur Wolves on and, in the 43rd minute, they went ahead again with a great lobbed ball from Heather Clarkson (pictured), sending them in 2-1 up at half time.

In a surprise break-away in the 56th minute, Albion were awarded a penalty following a foul by Wolves' Tammy Evans. Wolves' keeper Natalie Hall dived to her left to make an excellent save and maintain Wolves' lead.

Albion were battling hard, forcing their way back into the game but Wolves still looked dangerous on the break. They had the ball in the net yet again on 65 minutes but Ledgister was adjudged to have handled the ball and Albion were awarded a free kick.

Wolves came close on 66 minutes as Anna Perks headed over the bar from a Maria Beaney corner. Then at the other end Natalie Hall made a couple of good saves and Anne Johnson headed off the line as Albion threw everything into attack. Albion came close again on 81 minutes when they had to watch the ball hit the heel of Wolves defender Michelle Thomas and roll agonisingly past the post to go out for a corner.

Next Sunday 2nd December Wolves play host to Loughborough Students. The game will be played at Goodrich Sports Stadium, Stafford Road, Fordhouses, Wolverhampton with a 2.30pm kick-off.
