Wolves Women - An introduction
Wolverhampton Wanderers Women's FC has risen from modest beginnings to become one of the Midlands' top teams, playing in the National Premier League.
Initially known as Heathfield Rovers the club was formed in 1975, then became Wolverhampton & Wednesbury Tube before taking on the name of Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1993.
In October 1999 Wolves Women were incorporated under the Companies Act 1985 as a private company with several influential local business people joining the board, including BBC WM presenter Jenny Wilkes and Wolves' own Rachael Heyhoe Flint.
The club developed a strong youth programme, with teams ranging from Under 10s to seniors. The youth set-up has now become part of Wolves' Community Programme, with an FA-licensed Centre of Excellence for girls aged 8 to 16.
The senior section has been awarded Charter Standard Adult Club status by the FA. A squad of 40 players makes up a first team and a reserve team who play in the Midland Combination League. First team games are played at Goodrich Sports Stadium on the Stafford Road in Wolverhampton on Sunday afternoons, 2pm kick-off.
