Denes Hits A Stunner At Stoke
Stoke City 1 (Grocott 65)
Wolves 2 (Rosa 48, Winnall 89)
A rocket shot from Denes Rosa shortly after the interval put Wolves reserves on the road to victory against Stoke.
Although City drew level, Sam Winnall made sure the Molineux men finished their season off in style with a late winner.
Marc Grocott missed an early chance for Stoke when he broke clear only to shoot wide from 15-yards with just Billy Lumley to beat.
Wolves almost took a freak advantage in the 11th minute when home keeper Steve Ryan hammered a clearance against Rodney McDonald. The ball ballooned back towards the City goal but Ryan managed to avoid the own goal by running back to retrieve inside the six-yard box.
Rosa hit a low cross through the City goalmouth with both Winnall and Alex Melbourne both just failing to get a touch, and Kieron Parsons shot over the bar at the other end from a good position following Jimmy Phillips' cross.
Melbourne was wide when he tried his luck from 30-yards out, then Winnall forced a fine save from Ryan with another long-distance effort after a a lofted through pass from Mark Salmon.
Half-Time: Stoke 0 Wolves 0
Three minutes after the break, Rosa broke the deadlock with a superb goal. There didn't appear to be any danger to the home goal but the Hungarian hit a tremendous shot from fully 35-yards into the top corner of the net.
A well struck shot from Matt Bailey tested Ryan as Wolves looked to extend their lead but it was City that hit back to equalise in the 65th minute when Grocott's header from Parsons' centre left Lumley no chance.
Ashley Hemmings looked to be in with a chance as he ran through the middle, but Ryan had spotted the danger and he was quickly off his line to save at the striker's feet.
After James Davis had replaced Hemmings, Parsons shot over the bar and Phillips was wide for City whilst Ryan claimed a low cross from Winnall as Wolves substitute Davis ran in.
In the 89th minute Winnall sealed victory for Wolves when he rolled the ball over the line after Salmon had run through on goal and drawn Ryan from his line before passing to his team-mate who made sure that he had stayed onside.
