Wolves Go Out To Single Strike
Wolves' Birmingham Senior Cup run came to an end last night.
Birmingham City went through to the final thanks to a 17th minute goal from Mauro Zarate
Both sides fielded strong sides in an even contest at the Bucks Head.
The decisive goal came as a result of clever play down the left and a neat finish from Blues' Argentinean loan signing.
Just before, Wolves went close with a corner that Darren Ward just failed to get a clean connection with.
The second half followed a similar pattern with the hosts having plenty of possession without creating many clear cut chances.
Jay Bothroyd suffered a kick to his ankle and was replaced by Liam Hughes with ten minutes to go.
The young Academy graduate was soon into the action, showing a good touch before firing a shot that the keeper blocked.
From the resulting corner, Wolves again went close to getting the equaliser when Ward's header went just over the bar.
Coach Bobby Mimms says: "All in all it was a decent performance and the lads showed a good attitude.
"It was a competitive game and a good work out for the senior pros who didn't feature at the weekend."
