Hednesford Town 1 (R. Dyer 9, Nagington 87)

Wolves 3 (Mulgrew 32, 53, Winnall 55)

Wolves moved into the quarter-finals of the Birmingham Senior Cup after coming from behind to beat Hednesford Town at Keys Park.

Charlie Mulgrew, playing in midfield, enjoyed a fine game scoring twice and having a hand in Wanderers' third goal.

Town started strongly and former Molineux youth graduate Gordon Simms had a header cleared following Chris Adams' early corner.

But the Pitmen moved into a ninth minute lead after Rob Edwards had conceded another corner as he halted Ross Dyer's run into the box.

Adams again took the flag-kick and Wayne Dyer ran in to side foot a volley into the roof of the net.

As Wolves looked to hit back David Ijaha won possession on the left. He cut in and worked a shooting position for himself but his shot was blocked. Then Ijaha found Marcel Tulloch in the home area but he too had his shot blocked by a defender.

Mulgrew almost deceived Rene Gilmartin with a 35-yard free-kick that hit the outside of a post and seconds later, at the other end, Wayne Dyer scooped a shot over the bar after a cross from Alan Nagington.

Tulloch was injured after he had lobbed the ball over Gilmartin and then collided with the keeper with Simms running back to clear.

Wolves drew level in the 32nd minute through Mulgrew who glanced a header past Gilmartin after an excellent cross from Alex Melbourne.

Tulloch's injury forced him from the field and he was replaced by Sam Winnall before the Melbourne-Mulgrew combination almost paid dividends again.

Melbourne supplied another fine centre but this time Mulgrew's header was wide of the mark.

Shortly before the break, Billy Lumley saved Nagington's driven effort with his legs.

Half-Time: Hednesford 1 Wolves 1

Within a minute of the restart it was Gilmartin's turn to use his legs to good effect as he diverted a well struck effort from Ashley Hemmings.

Hemmings then ran onto a through ball from Edwards and played a pass to Winnall whose angled shot was turned behind by Gilmartin.

Wolves moved into a 53rd minute lead with Mulgrew once again the man on the mark. Winnall raced through but was forced wide by Gilmartin.

Ijaha grabbed possession and although his cross was cleared the ball ran to Mulgrew who curled home a 25-yard shot.

Two minutes later Mulgrew helped fashion the third when he found Melbourne wide on the right with the cross that followed headed in by Winnall.

Midway through the half Mulgrew slammed a free-kick into the Hednesford defensive wall after Winnall had been fouled by Steve Palmer just outside the home box.

Three minutes from the end Nagington converted from point-blank range after David Brown's low cross had run virtually along the goalline.

Then Graham almost took the game into extra-time but his header following Jewade Brown's corner, hit the bar - the rebound being booted clear.
