Too Strong For Shrews
Shrewsbury Res 1 (Ryan 83) Wolves Res 4 (Hughes 20, 23, Rosa 50, Bothroyd 74)
Wolves proved too strong for Shrewsbury in an entertaining afternoon encounter in the Shropshire sunshine. Liam Hughes (pictured) scored a brace and there was one each for Jay Bothroyd and Denes Rosa.
Matt Jarvis got another chance to work on his match fitness, but there was no place for Lewis Gobern who has suffered a slight hamstring strain.
Darren Ward was seeing his first action since the Hull game.
A lively start saw an early opportunity for Bothroyd who got on the end of a Mark Little cross but his effort lacked pace and was comfortably saved by Ryan Esson.
Shrewsbury followed up with an individual effort from Carl Priso but his attempted chip was easily collected by Billy Lumley.
Rosa weaved his way into the box and tried to pull the ball back for Bothroyd who couldn't get a clean connection.
The hosts almost took an 18 minute lead when Chris Humphrey crossed for Stuart Nicholson, whose header came off the bar.
Immediately Wolves were on the counter attack, with Jarvis working his way into the perfect position to pull back for Liam Hughes who had only to tap the ball past Esson from six yards.
Hughes made it two three minutes later, turning in the centre of the box and firing home.
Salmon fed Jarvis in a central position and the former Gillingham man powered a shot just wide.
On the half hour mark, Hughes cleverly chested down the ball for Bothroyd who ran through in a central position but Esson was quickly down to stop Wolves further extending the lead.
Shrewsbury had the chance to pull one back just before the break when Nicholson crossed for Priso whose header went just over the bar.

Rosa made it eight goals in five games when he got Wolves off to a flying second half start. A corner from Elliott Bennett was headed on by Lee Collins and volleyed home by the Hungarian.
Bothroyd - out to stake a claim for the injured Stephen Elliott's first team place - hit the post on 58. Hughes pounced on the rebound but hit his shot straight at the keeper.
A goalmouth scramble at the other end saw a Luke Jones header hit the post. Then Priso had a headed effort that Lumley touched onto the other post before grabbing the rebound.
A well worked combination between Steve Leslie and Michael Symes set up Jimmy Ryan but he squandered his chance firing high over Lumley's bar on 70 minutes.
Bothroyd wrapped the scoring up for Wolves with a confident shot high into Esson's net on 74 minutes.
Town got a consolation strike on 83 minutes - Ryan slipping a low drive past Lumley.
