Midfielder Injured In Reserves Defeat.
Wolves 1 (Bothroyd 10)
Coventry City 3 (Simmonds 3, Andrews 15, 78)
Wolves' reserve game with Coventry City was marred late in the game by an injury to Stephen Gleeson.
The midfielder collided with Sky Blues' goalkeeper Daniel Ireland and received treatment on the pitch for ten minutes before being carried off on a stretcher. He was conscious but was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
The game itself ended in disappointment for Wolves who, despite dominating the second-half, slipped to a 3-1 defeat.
Coventry moved into the lead with just three minutes on the clock when Donovan Simmonds despatched a powerful header past Graham Stack following a right-wing centre from David Burtoft.
Freddy Eastwood wasn't far off an equaliser with a terrific drive that was inches too high. But the striker played his part as Wolves drew level in the tenth minute.
He took a pass from Denes Rosa and turned superbly before feeding a short pass through to Jay Bothroyd who finished with a low left foot shot into the opposite corner of the net.
Seconds later Bothroyd hit the target again but his effort was rubbed out by a marginal offside decision.
It took the visitors just five minutes to regain the advantage with an almost identical goal to their first.
Burtoft was again the supplier from the right and this time it was Wayne Andrews who was in position to head beyond the dive of Stack.
Rob Edwards was booked for pulling back Andrews and Jermaine Grandison for charging into the back of Bothroyd.
Then, five minutes before the break, Edwards limped off to be replaced by Martin Riley.
Just on half-time Elliott Bennett was upended on the right-hand corner of the City box but Gleeson hit the defensive wall after playing a 1-2 with Bothroyd from the free-kick.
Half-Time: Wolves 1 Coventry 2
Three minutes after the restart Eastwood fired over with a free-kick from 22-yards after Bothroyd had been fouled.
Andrews was yellow carded for a late challenge before Bothroyd shot into the side netting after running onto a through ball from Charlie Mulgrew.
Simmonds, completely unmarked and six-yards out, headed way wide before Wolves went back on the attack with Bennett glancing a header narrowly wide of the angle
Ireland blocked at Bothroyd's feet and Bennett burst through into the box but, from an angle, he found the side netting as Wolves continued to press.
In the 74th minute Bothroyd met a Mulgrew cross but his header smacked against the bar and rebounded to safety.
Just a minute later the same two players featured again with Ireland making a fine save in pushing over Bothroyd's header after another Mulgrew cross.
Completely against the run of play Coventry grabbed the cushion of a third goal when Andrews intercepted Mark Little's under-hit back pass and poked the ball into the net.
Then came the injury to Gleeson who bravely went in for a Bennett centre and collided with Ireland who had run from his line to punch clear.
When play restarted Wolves' bad luck in front of goal continued when a 30-yard volley from Bothroyd dipped just over the bar before Rosa beat his man and curled a shot that beat Ireland but hit the upright.
Deep into injury time Ireland made another great save from Bothroyd and, after Rosa had picked up the loose ball and returned it to the striker, his next effort struck a defender and deflected over the bar.
