Wolves 4 (Hughes 49, Rosa 51, 68, 80)

Oldham Athletic 0

Denes Rosa bagged a treble as Wolves reserves opened their account for the season with a convincing win over Oldham Athletic.

Rosa almost got the game off to a dramatic start when, in the fourth minute, he spotted Les Pogliacomi off his line and chipped the keeper from fully 40 yards with the ball just clearing the bar and landing on the roof of the net.

Elliott Bennett saw his drive from the edge of the box well saved by Pogliacomi who then had to dive full length to keep out a low shot from Rosa.

In the 23rd minute David Ijaha cut in from the left and unleashed a tremendous angled effort that flew into the top of the side netting.

There was plenty of effort from both sets of players but precious little in terms of goal attempts as the half drew to a close although Ashley Kelly fired a low centre across the face of the Wolves goal before Matty Wolfenden headed wide from a Kelly corner.

Half-Time: Wolves 0 Oldham 0

Two goals in the first six minutes of the new half put Wolves firmly in control.

The first came in the 49th minute when Rosa laid the ball into the path of Liam Hughes who made no mistake with a rising drive from the edge of the area.

Then Rosa got onto the scoresheet himself when he hit an unstoppable half-volley into the roof of the net after a great cross from Bennett.

The Latics almost pulled one back through Aaron Chalmers who scooped the ball narrowly wide with a first time connection from Ross Thaker's cross.

Rosa went close again when he drove the ball narrowly over the bar after Bennett's corner had been headed out to him.

But the Hungarian midfielder wasn't to be denied and, in the 68th minute, after he had been played in by Mark Salmon, he ghosted past a defender before nonchalantly flicking the ball into the net from six yards out.

And, with ten minutes remaining, Rosa completed his hat trick when he converted at the far post after a Bennett corner had been helped on across a crowded goalmouth.
