Foxes On Top At Telford
Wolves 1 (K. Bennett 11)
Leicester City 5 (Fryatt 13-pen, 58-pen, 65, Beswick 55, Sappleton 76)
The experience of a strong Leicester side told in the end as they came from behind to inflict a 5-1 reserve defeat on a young Wolves team that included just two men with first team experience.
Alan Maybury had a good chance to open the scoring for City but he blazed his shot high over the bar from 12 yards after Matt Fryatt had nodded the ball down to him.
Denes Rosa ran onto David Ijaha's through pass and prodded the ball wide of advancing City keeper Jimmy Nielsen but his effort ran inches wide.
Then Maybury charged down a Billy Lumley clearance but Lee Collins ran in to clear before the City man could roll the ball into the empty net.
The game had got off to a brisk start with chances at both ends and Rosa drew a fine diving save from Nielsen before Wolves moved into an 11th minute lead.
Rosa played the ball to Kyle Bennett who struck a stunning 20 yard volley that curled and dipped just beneath the bar.
But the advantage lasted for less than two minutes with Fryatt equalising from the penalty spot after Mark Salmon had fouled Ryan Beswick.
Lethanial Rowe-Turner went into the book for a reckless challenge on Michael Wardle who was unable to continue and was replaced by David Davis.
Former Molineux striker Carl Cort was only just wide with a shot from 20 yards then Bennett looked on for a second goal when Jemal Johnson squared a low cross into his path but Nielsen pulled off a fine reflex save to deny the youngster.
Just before the break there were chances for both sides. Fryatt, running away from goal, turned and chipped a shot that just missed the far post, and Johnson was denied by Nielsen who saved the striker's angled drive at the near post.
Half-Time: Wolves 1 Leicester 1
After only 20 seconds of the new half Sergio Hellings should have given City the lead when the ball broke to him but, with just Lumley to beat, he fired over the bar.
Then Johnson raced onto Rosa's through ball and cut inside his marker before he too hit a shot that went over.
But then Leicester took control with two goals in a three minute spell. Beswick drove a low shot home in the 55th minute before Johnson was penalised for a tackle on Hossein Kaebi in the home area.
It seemed a harsh decision but, after Johnson had been booked for dissent, Fryatt converted his second penalty of the game.
Seven minutes later he completed his hat trick with a bizarre goal. He blocked a Lumley clearance and scooped a shot towards goal that the keeper managed to push onto the post. But Fryatt pounced on the loose ball and drilled it into the net via the inside of the far post.
City substitute Rocky Sappleton completed the scoring when he burst through the middle and thumped an unstoppable shot past Lumley 14 minutes from time.
