A Dream Move
Karl Henry has this morning completed his move from Stoke City.
A compensation agreement of £100,000, plus an extra £75,000 depending on appearances, was agreed between Wolves and the Potters yesterday. There is also a 15% sell-on fee clause.
The Wednesfield-born midfielder signed a three-year deal today in advance of his first training session with Mick McCarthy's squad. Henry played for Wolves against Aston Villa on Saturday to allow the new manager to take a look at the player.
"To say I am happy with the move is a big understatement - I am delighted," says Karl.
"Wolves is my hometown club, most of my family support the team, and it is a dream to be playing here at Molineux.
"Coming here is something that I never thought would happen, but things have moved quickly and now it has - I am over the moon.
"I played here at Molineux for Stoke two seasons ago, and that was a massive day for me and my family, so to come here and sign for Wolves is amazing.
"It all happened so quickly. This time last week I was sat at Stoke wondering what would happen and then on Saturday I was thrown in to play for Wolves against Aston Villa. Now, just a few days later, I have signed a three-year contract."
The 23-year-old made his appearance at the weekend following Mark Davies' injury in the opening stages of the game, and he is now hoping for his chance to make his full debut against Plymouth this Saturday.
"My favoured position is central midfield, although I have filled in at right midfield, right-back and even left-back over the past couple of seasons and so I became a bit of a utility player," explains Karl.
"Tony Pulis did ask me to stay at Stoke, there was a contract on the table but I felt it was time for a fresh start. I had been at the club since I was 11 and then when Wolves came along last week I think the manager knew I couldn't turn it down.
"It won't be easy at all down there at Plymouth on Saturday. The first game of the season is always tough. Ian Holloway is known for having big strong teams, so it will be difficult for us - but I am looking forward to it."
