An Unforgettable Experience
England's under 18 international against Turkey on Tuesday evening proved to be something of an unforgettable experience for Mark Little - despite the 1-0 defeat that his side suffered.
The Worcester-born product of the Molineux Academy was making his debut for his country after impressing at both reserve and youth levels for his club over the past year.
He said: "It was pretty strange because everywhere we went after we had arrived in Istanbul, we were accompanied by armed guards.
"It was a good job really because there was a lot of aggression aimed at us. When we travelled by coach, children were throwing stones and eggs at us!
"There was quite a big crowd at the game itself and they were quite hostile, but again it was mainly youngsters.
"We conceded a goal early on and although I felt we were the better team and enjoyed the majority of the play, we didn't take our chances and ended up losing.
"It was my first cap and afterwards Brian Eastick, our manager, told me that he was pleased with what I'd done.
"It was all a real thrill for me - I'd had a smile on my face since I got my call up a couple of weeks ago and although we lost I really enjoyed the experience.
"Most of the team was made up of players from Premier League clubs but no one thought they were better than anyone else - they are a great bunch and we all got on well together."
