Makes The Wait Worth It
After ten years of planning for a new medical area at the club's permanent training base, Barry Holmes is overwhelmed to finally have moved into the new Sir Jack Hayward Trainign Ground at Compton Park.
The physio has had a hands-on approach to the past year of building work and was one of the first to take a look at the new building, once completed last week.
"I was involved in the initial planning ten years ago and ever since this building has been in the pipeline I've been having meetings with the contractors and architects to discuss the layout and so on," says Barry.
"I've been wandering over from the portakabins wearing a hard hat on a regular basis over the past year to make sure everything was going well and to see how things were shaping up.
"The main things as far as I was concerned was making sure we had a decent gymnasium and a good treatment room. The gym is as big as we can make it, it's got a lot of equipment and the treatment room is a nice size.
"We've also managed to get some computer testing facilities in here, with the icing on the cake being our new hydrotherapy pool.
"In addition to our facilities, the club doctor has a new office which can also be used as a centre for some minor surgery, such as the removal of stitches, minor foot procedures and so on.
"We are also hoping to get some ultrasound equipment in there so that we can do some scanning ourselves onsite.
"But, one of the greatest benefits that I can see is that it is nice to come into a clean, open, modern environment for work or treatment. It encourages you to stay longer, whereas it can have been a bit of a problem in the past when we've been working out of a portakabin with the rain battering on the tin roof!"
