Stephen Ward is happy to continue to wing it with Wolves next season as he targets another major first-team contribution.

Despite spending two months on the sidelines with injury Stephen made 31 appearances last season, the majority on the left wing rather than as a frontline striker which is where he launched  his Molineux career.

And as befits all members of the squad the 22-year-old will gladly play anywhere in the team if asked to do so.

"I'm not sure if I'm thought of as a striker anymore and to be honest I'm happy to play anywhere," says Stephen.

"I just want to play as many games as possible and hopefully I will be pushing for a place in the team and at least being in and around the squad.

"I have no problem playing left wing, left back or wherever I'm called upon.

"The gaffer's so good with us and honest with us that I think we'd all play anywhere if asked.

"And it's a fresh start for everyone when you look ahead to the new season.

"It's a chance for anyone to do well and get their foot in the door if you like and I know I'll be fighting for a place just like everyone else.

"I'm just glad to be back from the injury and will give it my best shot during pre-season."

The Championship being the tough division that it is, there are no guarantees about where a team will finish.

But Stephen believes Wolves have the potential to do well, not least thanks to the arrival of three summer signings and the experiences picked up over the last two seasons.

"We'll have a much stronger squad and given that we've had two near misses we'll also be far more experienced," he insists.

"The gaffer's made a few astute signings and I'm sure he'll be making more.

"We're still a young squad but a lot of the lads have now played a lot of games and that should stand us in good stead.

"I think this year  there will be a fresh hunger and the lads will know that this is  massive year and after coming so close for a couple of years we've definitely got the capability.

"We'll take a lot out of these last couple of years, on a personal note I know I have, and a s a result we can only improve."
