Wolves have followed in the footsteps of fellow Midland clubs and decided against taking part in a reserve league next season.

Instead Mick McCarthy has opted for playing a series of training ground friendlies as was the case in the 2006/07 campaign.

Coventry and Leicester have both withdrawn from the Pontin's League whilst Birmingham City and Derby County, having lost their Premier Reserve League status following their relegation to the Championship, have decided against joining a League.

Last season Wolves finished sixth out of 12 in the Pontin's Central Division.

Mick said: "As we will have at least 13 midweek fixtures throughout next season, we can pick and choose when to play reserve friendlies rather than being committed to fulfilling reserve League fixtures.

"The system seemed to work well the season before last so we decided to go back to it. And it also gives us more chance of getting our young professionals out on loan to gain experience."
