Winning the Championship's Golden Boot award was scant reward for Sylvan Ebanks-Blake - the striker would happily exchange the honour for a place in the play-offs.

The popular striker scored 12 goals for Wanderers following his transfer window move from Plymouth, for whom he had already netted 13 times. His total of 25 is one more than West Bromwich Albion's Kevin Phillips.

Sylvan admitted: "On a personal level, to win the Golden Boot is very pleasing especially when I have finished ahead of some very good seasoned strikers like Kevin Phillips, James Beattie and Stern John.

"But I would gladly swap all of my goals for a place in the play-offs or promotion.

"I was perhaps trying too hard against my old club on Sunday, but I don't think we got the rub of the green in front of goal.

"We all felt bitterly disappointed after the game. It was always going to be difficult but, on a positive note, we have a very young squad that will be another year wiser next May and that can only be good.

"The squad can grow up together and I find that quite exciting. I think we have a massive chance next season."

Of his move from the south coast club, he added: "I'm really settled in the area - the lads have made it a very easy transition for me and they are a great bunch to be involved with.

"And the fans have been brilliant to me.

"We have a lot of work to do after the summer but even though we haven't broken up yet, I can't wait to get started again."
