Molineux youngsters Elliott Bennett and Ashley Hemming were in for bit of a shock at the End of Season Awards Night on Thursday evening when they were called up on stage to receive trophies.

Elliott was named as the Young Professional of the Year whilst Ashley scooped the Academy Player of the Year award.

Neither player was even aware that they had been nominated and whilst admitting they were a little shy of going on stage in front of the 500 crowd, they were none the less delighted to have been recognised for their efforts over the course of the campaign

"It came as a complete shock," said Elliott. "I was delighted to pick up the award although I was a little nervous when I was asked to say a few words to the people in the room.

"It's been a great season for me. I made my debut for Wolves and have played in the first teams at Crewe and Bury whilst on loan.

"Now I just want to push on here at Wolves. I've still got lots to learn, I know, but I'm loving every minute of it."

Wolverhampton born Ashley, who is 17, added: "Like Elliott it all came as a total surprise to me.

"I made my debut for the reserves this season and have played in around half of their games. The step up from the Academy has been a hard one but I hope people think I've done okay.

"I'd like to thank John Perkins and Bobby Mimms for the work they have put in coaching me.

"It's great being at Molineux and next season can't come quickly enough."
