Sylvan Ebanks-Blake had a pleasant surprise as he relaxed in front of the TV last night when he discovered he had won the Powerade Player of the Month award for March in the Coca Cola Championship.

The striker was actually watching the Big League Weekend show on Sky TV when the announcement was made.

"It was a shock but a nice one," he admitted. "It's really pleasing to win a personal award like this but a lot of credit has to go to the team and how we have performed over the month.

"I'm really enjoying myself here at Wolves. I got off to a good start and the team have picked up and are kicking on.

"If we can win the next two games then we will have a massive chance of being in and around things at the end of the season."

Boss Mick McCarthy added: "I'm delighted for Sylvan - we all are.

"He was up there in the scoring charts when he came here and he's carried on and helped us to get back into the play-off frame.

"He has scored some good goals but his second against Charlton the other week was outstanding."
