Mark Davies will not take part in any first team action this season after suffering another injury setback.

The youngster had returned to full training after a lengthy period out with a shoulder problem, only to jar his knee.

Mark also suffered with glandular fever during the first part of this season.

Boss Mick McCarthy now wants the midfielder to concentrate on getting back to full fitness in time for pre-season training.

Mick said: "Mark has got bone bruising and his knee is in a brace to protect it.

"He was back in full training and then just jarred his knee.

"It's a knock back for him and he has no chance of taking part in first team action this season.

"He's a good little player and we would all like to see him back fit. When he's out training he's definitely a first team player.

"It's been very difficult for him to have been out for so long.

"But he's getting the best possible treatment so let's hope he gets a bit of luck. We want him fully fit for the summer."

The boss also revealed that Gary Breen had still been suffering from illness prior to the Charlton game but should be fit for Bristol City.

Mick added: "Gary suffered from the stomach bug that went around the squad then had mouth ulcers before the trip to Charlton. It's taken it out of him and he's been run down.

"But he's had a few days rest - which is what he needed - and he should be fine now."
