We Were Hopeless
Mick McCarthy described tonight's performance as 'hopeless' after seeing his side go down 1-0 at Barnsley.
A jaded looking Wolves had a chance to earn at least a point after being awarded a penalty, but Andy Keogh failed to put he ball past Heinz Muller.
The Molineux boss said: "We were steamrollered and that's never been said about us.
"I can't find a better adjective to describe it than hopeless.
"Barnsley fully deserved their win. They put in a level of performance that was where we were three or four weeks ago.
"We need to look at that."
The Wolves manager opted for changes upfront, switching Stephen Ward from a wide position to play alongside Keogh.
He added: "I knew coming here would be hard and I wanted fresh legs.
"It isn't as though they are not first team players. Ward and Keogh played a lot together last season and were terrific."
Of the penalty save, the boss said: "You expect to score from the spot. So do you congratulate the keeper or berate the striker? I suppose it depends on which side you are on."
The only goal of the game came after a failed headed clearance by Karl Henry fell to Istvan Ferenczi.
Mick concluded: "I don't know how Karl ended up heading it from there but it was a bizarre goal - that's for sure."
