Michael Kightly won his second cap for the England under 21s when he came on as a substitute for the final 20 minutes of the 2-0 victory over Bulgaria in a rain swept Sofia last night.

Whilst he may not have been on the pitch for too long, after replacing Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor, the midfielder still created chances for his teammates and almost got onto the scoresheet himself.

The victory over the Bulgarians coupled with last Friday's 3-0 triumph over Montenegro, means that the under 21s have got their Euro Championship campaign off to the best possible start.

Michael said: "Now that I've played in a qualifying game it means that I will be eligible to play in the finals in Sweden in 2009 should we get there.

"I will be 23 by then but the competition rules state that I could still take part as an over age player because I had played in a qualifier."

The under 21s next game is against the Republic of Ireland in Cork on Tuesday, 16th October. The other country in Group 3 is Portugal who currently head the table. Like England, they won their two opening games but have scored one more goal.

Of his brief appearance in Sofia, Michael added: "I set up a couple of chances - for Luke Moore and Matt Derbyshire - and almost got one myself with a header but the cross was literally an inch too far in front of me.

"But it was a good win, in fact we could have beaten them by a bigger margin.

"I've been away for eight days and enjoyed the experience but it's nice to be back at Wolves and getting ready for Saturday.

"Sheffield United are a big side in this League and it's going to be a difficult game. But we are all looking forward to it."
