Wolves 1 (Bothroyd 83)

West Bromwich Albion 0

A late winner from substitute Jay Bothroyd was enough to beat arch rivals West Bromwich and give Wolves a sixth successive win - one that sent the Molineux masses wild with delight.

The three points lifted Wolves up above Albion and into fourth spot in the Championship table.

Karl Henry failed to recover from the rib injury he picked up in the game at Luton and his place and the captaincy was taken by Darren Potter who was back from his one match suspension.

Wolves kicked-off attacking the South Bank end and, in the early exchanges, a Michael McIndoe free-kick was cleared and Matt Murray claimed the ball after Jason Koumas took the game's first corner.

Paul McShane was spoken to by the referee for his reaction after being penalised for a challenge on McIndoe but Michael Kightly's free-kick was easily claimed by Dean Kiely in the Albion goal.

Seyi Olofinjana tested Kiely with a 20-yard snapshot that was only claimed by the keeper at the second attempt before McShane appeared to blatantly obstruct McIndoe only for the referee to wave play on.

A clever pass by Potter found Andy Keogh in the Albion box but the striker found his path to goal blocked as he turned onto the ball.

Murray touched behind an angled shot from Kevin Phillips and then the referee incensed the Wolves bench and crowd when he awarded Albion a free-kick after Paul Robinson had appeared to clatter into Kightly.

Keogh forced Wolves' first corner of the game off Neil Clement in the 21st minute but Kiely took Kightly's flag-kick before Stephen Ward was too high with an attempted chip from just outside the area.

Kightly's persistence to the right of the Albion box resulted in a centre from the winger that was nodded back by Ward to Keogh who hooked the ball over his shoulder into the arms of Kiely who had read the danger.

Curtis Davies just beat McIndoe to Murray's long clearance prodding the ball back to Kiely who cleared before the half drew to a close with Ward shooting over after Keogh had headed down a free-kick from the halfway line that was taken by Neill Collins.

Half-Time: Wolves 0 Albion 0

Murray came to the rescue five minutes after the restart when Davies put Diomansy Kamara through on goal. The keeper made a superb save with Collins running in to clear the loose ball.

Kightly did find the back of the Albion net but the whistle had gone for offside and then Kiely had to dive full length to hold a dipping shot from McIndoe.

Murray confidently held a sharp drive from Koumas, and seconds later, a quick throw-in from Rob Edwards found Kightly who ran in along the by-line before squaring the ball. Kiely did well to parry the cross and the ball was cleared before Keogh could take advantage.

Kightly fired over the bar after taking a pass from Potter who had won possession from Koumas, before Mick McCarthy made a double switch midway through the half when he replaced McIndoe with Bothroyd and Gary Breen with Jody Craddock.

With his first touch Bothroyd almost undid the visiting defence after he raced on to a Jackie McNamara through ball and forced a diving save from Kiely. From Kightly's corner, Collins glanced a header over the bar.

There was a close call for Wolves in the 71st minute after Koumas had released Kamara on the left. He cut into the box and hit a shot from an acute angle that hit the outside of the near post and went behind with his team-mates waiting for a pull back in the six-yard box.

The Senegalese striker was booked for diving shortly afterwards when he went down under a challenge from Olofinjana.

Murray pulled off another magnificent save to deny Kamara who beat three men as he cut into the box before letting fly with a fierce drive.

Keogh just failed to reach a Kightly centre and Murray blocked as Koumas burst into the box at the other end.

But Molineux erupted in the 83rd minute as Bothroyd homed in on a Ward pass and drove the ball across Kiely, just inside the far post (top picture).

Deep into stoppage time Murray saved the day with another fine save after Kamara had once again cut into the box and hammered a shot towards goal.
