Wolves 2 (Keogh 56, Kightly 64)
Queens Park Rangers 0
Wolves kept their grip on a play-off place thanks to a 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers with Andy Keogh and Michael Kightly both hitting target.
A win over Leicester City at the Walkers Stadium next Sunday will guarantee an extension to the season for Wanderers.
Before the game started, a minute's applause was held in tribute to Alan Ball who had passed away earlier in the week.
Mick McCarthy's team was unchanged as Rangers kicked-off on a glorious spring afternoon at Molineux.
An early Michael McIndoe corner was punched clear by Rangers keeper Jake Cole and Keogh drilled a low shot wide as Wolves enjoyed the best of the few openings
created in the opening minutes.
Martin Rowlands was penalised for a challenge on Jay Bothroyd to the left of the QPR box but Kightly's free-kick was cleared.
Seyi Olofinjana hit a low 20-yard drive that wasn't too far away and McIndoe sliced a volley wide after he had taken a pass from Neill Collins.
In the 31st minute, Collins was back on defensive duty blocking a dangerous shot from Mauro Milanese and then the Scot provided a cross that Keogh nodded down to McIndoe who scooped the ball wide of the far post.
The alert Keogh then chased a back pass but Cole spotted the danger and raced from his line to smother the ball at the striker's feet.
Wolves won another corner when Patrick Kanyuka headed a Kightly cross behind but Olofinjana was wide with a header from McIndoe's flag-kick.
Three minutes before the break Matt Murray came to the rescue after Adam Bolder's centre fell to Jimmy Smith who was stationed at the far post.
The Rangers midfielder controlled the ball and was preparing to shoot when Murray raced from his goal and blocked.
Half-Time: Wolves 0 QPR 0
A great save from Murray, and the woodwork, prevented Smith from breaking the deadlock two minutes into the new half.
After collecting a pass from Bolder, Smith jinked past a defender and hit a shot over Murray that the keeper just managed to get a fingertip to before it hit the bar. The ball dropped invitingly to Marc Nygaard but his shot was too high.
Bothroyd almost grabbed his tenth goal of the season after Kightly played a short corner to McIndoe. Kightly took a return pass and crossed to Bothroyd who headed just the wrong side of the post.
Wolves were back on top after the Smith scare and the lively Keogh watched as his lofted shot over Cole drifted narrowly wide of the far post.
The goal Wolves deserved finally arrived in the 56th minute. McIndoe centred and Keogh's header was brilliantly pushed out by Cole. But, unfortunately for the Rangers keeper, the ball went straight back to Keogh who scored his first goal at Molineux from the tightest of angles (top picture).
The Irishman almost got a second just two minutes later when he chased Olofinjana's through ball but this time Cole blocked his shot and
the ball flew over the bar.
Cole denied Kightly after Olofinjana's wonderfully flighted ball had sent McIndoe away down the left. The winger sent over a great cross and Kightly looked odds on to score but Cole once again blocked bravely.
But Kightly had the last word in the 64th minute when he finished from close range after meeting a through ball from Bothroyd.
A brief altercation between Gary Breen and Nygaard resulted in a yellow card for both players.
In the closing stages Rowlands fired straight at Murray from inside the area, and substitute Stephen Ward saw his shot saved by Cole after Keogh had carved out the opening.
