Plymouth Argyle 1 (Hayles 35)

Wolves 1 (Kouo-Doumbe og 47)

PAWolves had to work hard for the point they took from Plymouth, with Kevin O'Connor's deflected strike cancelling out Barry Hayles' opener for the south coast team.

A string of fine saves from Man of the Match Matt Murray helped Mick McCarthy's side preserve a share of the spoils.

Five men were making their full debuts for Wanderers - new signings Gary Breen, Karl Henry, Jay Bothroyd and Jamie Clapham, along with Academy graduate O'Connor.

Wolves kicked-off defending the end of Home Park that contained a 1,700 strong following from the Midlands.

The first real chance came in the fifth minute when Rohan Ricketts' shot from the edge of the box took a deflection and went narrowly over the bar.

Murray had to dash five yards out of his box to clear from Nick Chadwick who was penalised after he had collided with the keeper.

Clapham was harshly booked for a challenge on Chadwick and Jody Craddock had to head Tony Capaldi's free-kick behind as Chadwick threatened. Murray plucked Capaldi's corner out of the air.

Henry was the next victim over some over fussy refereeing when he was shown the yellow card for an innocuous tackle on Lilian Nalis in the centre circle.

In the 23rd minute Murray had to tip over a long-range free-kick from Paul Wotton. From the resulting corner, taken by PAWotton, Murray made a fine reflex save from Nalis' six-yard header.

Breen headed back a Mark Clyde free-kick to Henry on the edge of the area but the midfielder was closed down as he shot and the ball bounced to safety.

Plymouth moved into the lead ten minutes before the break. Capaldi raced in from the left and hit a low cross that Hayles turned towards goal from close in. Murray got a leg to the ball which looped into the air and appeared to cross the line before Chadwick got a final touch.

Murray was soon called into action again as he made a good stop to prevent a second goal from Hayles.

Half-Time: Plymouth 1 Wolves 0

Rob Edwards replaced Breen at the start of the new half which was less than two minutes old when Wanderers drew level.

Clapham found O'Connor just inside the Argyle area. The youngster's shot took a massive deflection off Matias Kouo-Doumbe and ballooned over stranded keeper Luke McCormick into the empty net

Chadwick, for a foul on Henry, and Edwards, for tripping David Norris, were the next to go into the referee's notebook.

Murray dived on a low free-kick from Capaldi and Norris, moments after he had been booked for fouling Naylor, saw the PAkeeper clutch hold of his fierce 20-yard volley.

Nalis was shown the yellow card after a challenge on Clapham and then Craig Davies became the sixth man making his senior debut for Wolves when he replaced Bothroyd.

Plymouth piled on the pressure in the closing stages but, as the game moved into stoppage time, Clapham nearly won it for the visitors with an angled shot that flew inches wide of the far post.
