Wolves 1 (Ganea 59)

Preston North End (Etuhu 45)

Vio Ganea, starting his first League game for 18 months, scored a brilliant equalising goal but then, just over ten minutes later, he was sent-off as Wolves were held at Molineux by Preston North End.

A knee injury ruled out Carl Cort and his place in attack was taken by Ganea - the only change to the team that had started against Derby four days earlier.

Preston kicked-off attacking the North Bank end and they won two early corners the second of which, taken by David Jones, flew dangerously through the area and out on the far side of Michael Oakes' goal.

In the sixth minute, Darren Anderton's free-kick from the right of the Preston box fell to Gabor Gyepes but the Hungarian's shot was deflected over by Graham Alexander.

Lee Naylor's corner was cleared for another and this time it was Anderton that took the kick. The ball was headed down to Kenny Miller who controlled it before volleying towards the top corner only for Carlo Nash to make a fingertip save.

There was another moment of danger for Wanderers when Adam Nowland whipped over a low cross that Lewis Neal just failed to get a touch to at the far post.

Some nifty footwork from Seol saw the Korean beating two men on the right-wing but the curling cross that followed was plucked from the air by Nash. The keeper once enjoyed a short loan spell at Molineux.

Chris Lucketti had to receive treatment following a Ganea challenge and, despite treatment, he was unable to recover and was replaced by Youl Mawene.

Jones fired straight at Oakes from 20-yards then Mawene was wide with a near post header after a corner from Paul McKenna.

Mark Davies tested Nash with a low shot from just outside the box, before Nowland limped off to be replaced by Dixon Etuhu just before the break.

And the substitute had been on the pitch for little over a minute when he gave the visitors the lead. Oakes made a fine save in turning a deflected cross-shot from Tyrone Mears behind.

But, from McKenna's corner, Etuhu rose unchallenged to head home.

Half-Time: Wolves 0 Preston 1

Five minutes after the restart, Naylor played a short corner into the path of Mark Kennedy whose low drive was wide of the target.

Nash saved a snapshot from Ganea after Miller had headed down a cross from Seol who then tested the keeper with a firm shot from 20-yards.

Within the space of a minute the visitors were inches away from a two goal lead and then Wolves were level.

In the 58th minute Jones, who is on loan to Preston from Manchester United, ran in from the left and hit a fierce cross-shot that smacked against the foot of the near post and bounced clear.

Play immediately switched to the other end and Ganea was there to crash home a volley after a perfectly weighted cross from Seol. The Romanian ran to the crowd to celebrate - a move that earned him a booking and was ultimately to prove very costly.

Claude Davis was shown the yellow card after he felled Miller just outside the Preston box but Anderton's free-kick bounced clear off the wall.

Neal saw his shot comfortably dealt with by Oakes whilst a deflected Anderton effort fell nicely for Nash.

With 20 minutes left Wolves were reduced to ten men after Ganea was shown a second yellow for a late challenge on McKenna.

Glenn Hoddle made two changes to his midfield with Seyi Olofinjana coming on for Anderton and Colin Cameron for Davies.

Two more bookings followed - Miller for dissent and Neal for time wasting when he took and age to leave the field after being substituted by Chris Sedgwick.

Joleon Lescott headed over after Naylor's free-kick from near the right-hand corner-flag before Nash cut out a cross from Rob Edwards that looked destined for Olofinjana.

Five minutes from the end, Leon Clarke was sent on for Seol but the young striker couldn't conjure up a winner for Wolves.
