The first ever FA Cup tie was played against Long Eaton Rangers at Wolves' Dudley Road home in October, 1883. A crowd of 2000 saw Wanderers win 4-1, with Jack Brodie scoring the first ever FA Cup goal for the club. Brodie also holds the record for the most FA Cup goals in a game, scoring five against Stoke in February, 1890.

The first Cup tie to be played at Molineux was against the Old Carthusians in January, 1890. Wolves won 2-0 in front of 13,000 spectators.

The highest ever attendance at Molineux was for the Cup game against Liverpool in February, 1939, when 61,315 packed into the ground. The club's record gate receipts were achieved more recently in January, 1999, for the 4th round game against Arsenal, netting £319,142.

The highest ever Wolves score in the FA Cup was 14-0, achieved at the expense of Crosswell's Brewery in November 1886.

The record for most FA Cup appearances for Wolves is held jointly by Harry Wood and Billy Wright with 48 games each. Wood played in the most Finals, three with Wolves and two with Southampton.

Wolves have played the Final on more grounds than any other team, competing for the trophy at the Oval, the Crystal Palace, Fallowfield, Stamford Bridge and Wembley.
The club has reached the semi-final stage of the competition on 14 occasions, the most recent being against Arsenal in April 1998, losing the game by a single goal at Villa Park.

Wolves have appeared in two League Cup Finals.

They were:

*1974 v Manchester City - won 2-1

Four players, John Richards, Kenny Hibbitt, Geoff Palmer and Derek Parkin appeared in both finals.
Wolves have reached the semi-final stage on three occasions, losing once to Tottenham in the 1972/3 season.

The best results achieved in these games is 5-1, attained on two occasions against Millwall in September, 1968, and Exeter in November, 1973. Both matches were at Molineux.

The worst defeats were 5-0 at Craven Cottage in October, 1966, and Roker Park in October, 1982.

Kenny Hibbitt has played the most games (36) with John Richards and Steve Bull scoring the most goals (18).

Arguably Wolves' most exciting League Cup game came in September, 1971, against Manchester City. Maine Road was packed with 29,000 seeing Wolves finally go down 4-3.

Other trophies won by the club are:

*1971 Texeco Cup v Hearts 1971 3-2 on aggregate (Bailey, Curran 2)

The first cup competition Wolves ever won was the Wrekin Cup in 1884, beating Hadley 11-0.  That trophy, which remains in the Molineux museum, was donated to local teams and is now known as the Wolverhampton Charity Cup.  It is contested for annually.
