A Walsall mother-of-three scored a place at a Wembley awards ceremony after brushing up her skills on a football inspired course run by Wolves' Community Department.

Chanell Brown was nominated for Learner of the Year 2008 after juggling motherhood with a course at Wolves in the Community's Study Support Centre, run in partnership with City of Wolverhampton College.

The 21-year-old, who has three children under the age of five, buses into the city from her home in Bloxwich two times a week in her bid to improve her reading and writing skills.

Chanell, who hopes to progress onto a business studies course, said: "I was delighted to be nominated and my children are really pleased for me."

The Learner of the Year award's ceremony took place at Wembley this Thursday. Chanell was presented with her certificate by Trevor Brooking, FA Director of football and TV's football pundit Garth Crooks.

Community Manager Andy Morgan said: "It's fantastic news to hear the Chanell has been nominated for her achievements. Progressing through the programme with undoubted dedication, Chantell has certainly put her mind to achieving her goals

"I'm sure over the coming months more of the candidates participating in the Heading for Success programme will be working hard to gain their qualification. I'd just like to finish by saying a big thank you to the college and the two lecturers, Gill and Lyndsey who deliver the educational programme, for their hard work and commitment."

The Heading for Success programme takes place at the Molineux Stadium three times and week. For more information on the courses available contact Wolverhampton college on: 01902-836 000.
