Youngsters Draw With Stoke
Wolves 1 (K Bennett) Stoke 1
Wolves' youth team fought out a disappointing one-all draw with Stoke at Compton this afternoon.
The home side should have won convincingly based on the number of chances they created in the second half.
Wolves made a sluggish start and were below their usual standard throughout the first 45 minutes. Despite this, Sam Winnall came close on two occasions but was narrowly off target.
It was the Potteries side that broke the deadlock half-way through the period, hitting Wolves on the break.
Scott Malone, Wolves' Man of the Match, had to work hard in defence to stop the visitors extending their lead before the interval.
A much improved second half saw Wolves create a multitude of chances - the best going to Ashley Hemmings, who was just wide of the target, Alex Melbourne, whose close-range effort cleared the bar, and Winnall who forced a good save from the City keeper.
The equaliser finally materialised on 88 minutes when Kyle Bennett (pictured) beat two defenders to shoot from just inside the box.
"We were very average in the first half and significantly better in the second," said coach John Perkins.
"After creating so many openings, we should have won the game comfortably."
