Reds Take The Points
Manchester United youth 3 Wolves youth 1 (Hemmings)
Wolves youth team fell to a 3-1 defeat, away to Manchester United, despite a battling performance.
The visitors started well and should have taken the lead in the tenth minute when David Ijaha headed onto the bar following a corner.
Wolves continued to press and, in the 20th minute, had the ball in the back of the net. Sam Winnall crossed for Ashley Hemmings (pictured) to stab home from six yards but the Wolves forward was judged to be off-side.
United came more into the game and capitalised on their chances, putting two past Wolves before the break.
John Perkins' side started the second period well and pulled a goal back within minutes - Hemmings beating two defenders before shooting from just outside the box.
However, a defensive error gave the Reds a third goal.
Winnall came close to getting a second for Wolves, after being put through by Kyle Bennett, but his shot produced a good save from the keeper.
Coach John Perkins said: "Although I wasn't happy with the result, the boys performed well.
"We showed some good passing movement but the difference between the teams was quality and pace in the final third."
