Rovers On Top At Compton
Wolves Youth 0 Blackburn Rovers Youth 2
Despite an improved performance after the interval, Wolves failed to recover from the two goals conceded to Blackburn Rovers in the opening half of Saturday's Academy fixture at Compton Park.
The Molineux youngsters started well and could have had a second minute penalty when James Davis appeared to be tripped in the area by the Rovers keeper. But the referee dismissed the home appeals for a spot kick.
Wolves enjoyed the best of the opening 15 minutes before the visitors started to get on top and two long range efforts put the Lancashire side in the driving seat by half-time.
After the restart Wolves came back into things and went close through Tom Spalding who headed narrowly wide, and James Davis who was denied by a last ditch tackle after he had been played in by Alex Melbourne.
Rovers were still a threat, however, and Billy Lumley (pictured) made two fine saves in the dying minutes before Sam Winnall went close to reducing the deficit.
Coach John Perkins said: "We changed the formation at half-time and things improved a lot after that. But, unfortunately, we weren't able to take any of our chances and the points went to Blackburn."
